About

Welcome to the Tiddy Photography website and thank you for having a look at my work. Please use this site as a portfolio to view the type and style of pictures that I specialise in – portraits of children and their families, pictures for commercial events and schools and editorial photographs for newspapers and magazines.

I have always loved images and people and wanted to be present at great moments when images are so important of and for people.  It was this passion that led me to train as a Photojournalist after Edinburgh University and then working in Fleet Street on the Daily Telegraph, Independent on Sunday and the Evening Standard for 6 years as a News and Features photographer. I have also been published in other titles like The Observer Magazine, The Times, The Sunday Times, The Sun, The People, Hello!, and Marie Claire. It was from this very dynamic environment that I moved out of London to start a family, and it seemed a natural progression, whilst also working for a number of magazines, to start taking portraits of families and children as my own three young children grew up.

I have been in the incredibly lucky position that my job as a press photographer 20 years ago, gave me access to photograph, along the way, some wonderful characters - be they celebrities like Diana, Princess of Wales, the two Princes, or Nelson Mandela and great moments in history such as the Ordination of Women Priests and South Africa’s first free elections in 1994. With this wide ranging experience of photographing so many different situations, it has stood me in great stead to take on a huge range of photographic work, be it taking corporate photographs for local business leaders, weddings, being given the compliment of being chosen to photograph people’s children, often earmarking great moments in their families as a 40th, 50th or dare I say 70th birthday present or events with people like the comedian Michael Mcintyre and working for wonderful places like Limewood and The Pig in the New Forest, Hampshire.

Recently, I have also returned to some of my photojournalism roots and am doing a project with The Right Now Foundation – a charity organization building orphanages in Southern India – documenting their extraordinary work in the tribal villages of Andrha Pradesh, with the prostitutes of Peddapurum, a leper colony and the slums of Chennai along with their homes elsewhere.

I also run beginners courses for people to come and learn how to take their cameras off “Automatic” and take real pictures they will treasure! This is a wonderful gift idea for anyone who is wanting to learn more about photography.

Variety is definitely the spice of life and I aim, whether it is during a portrait session of your family, a wedding, a commercial job or at an important public event, to make the pictures dynamic and fun. I hope my pictures convey this to you here.

My studio, is based outside Romsey in Hampshire, but portrait sittings can also be done in your own homes, garden or office. I travel all over for any other commercial job.
